Summary: Learn about the Digital Nomad Visa for Estonia and what is involved in obtaining one. This is one of the most important aspects of moving to Estonia as a digital nomad.

Estonia has been at the forefront of digital innovation, and it's no surprise that it was one of the first countries to introduce a visa specifically designed for digital nomads. This visa allows remote workers to live in Estonia and legally work for their employer or their own company registered abroad. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to obtain a digital nomad visa for Estonia.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the Estonian Digital Nomad Visa, ensure that you meet the following criteria:

  • You can work independently of location, using telecommunications technology.
  • You have an active employment contract with a company registered outside of Estonia, conduct business through your own company registered abroad, or work as a freelancer for clients predominantly outside of Estonia.
  • You meet the minimum income requirement, which is currently set at €3504 (gross of tax) per month for the six months preceding the application.

Application Process

The application process for the Estonian Digital Nomad Visa involves several steps:

  1. Prepare the necessary documents, including proof of income, employment or company details, and travel insurance that covers the duration of your stay.
  2. Complete the visa application form, which can be found on the official website of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. Book an appointment at the nearest Estonian Embassy or Consulate to submit your application. You may need to attend an interview and provide biometric data.
  4. Pay the visa application fee, which varies depending on the length of your stay. As of the last update, the fee for a Type C (short stay) visa is €80, and the fee for a Type D (long stay) visa is €100.
  5. Wait for the processing of your application, which can take up to 30 days for Type C visas and up to 60 days for Type D visas.
  6. If your application is approved, you will receive your digital nomad visa, which allows you to stay in Estonia for a year, with the possibility to extend it.

Where to Apply

Applications for the Estonian Digital Nomad Visa should be submitted through the official channels. Here are the relevant links to the official departments and agencies where digital nomads need to submit their information:
